Indiana, we’re counting on you. Conservatives, constitutionalists, and many libertarians across the country are counting on you to keep the prospect of a Ted Cruz nomination alive.
We at Liberty Cannon have made our political preferences quite known. It’s no secret that most of our contributors actively support Ted Cruz for president. We do not claim to be fair and balanced, and for that you can count on us.
Abraham Lincoln came into the Republican National Convention in May of 1860 with the plan to persuade delegates on the floor of the convention. The Republican front-runner at the time was former NY governor and then U.S. Senator Willam H. Seward.
Hopefully like Trump, Willam Seward did not have enough delegates to win nomination via the first round of voting. Despite this, Seward held a large lead on the first ballot and Lincoln stood at a distant second. On the second round, when some states delegates became unbound, Lincoln won a Pennsylvania delegation over. He still didn’t have enough to win and the votes tallied up to a virtual tie. By the third round, Lincoln had persuaded enough of the newly unbound delegates in order to win the nomination.
Lincoln never gave up, even though he came into the convention with only 25% of the delegates. Where would we be today if he had thrown in the towel?
Despite the pressure for Ted Cruz to give in and bow down to the “presumptive nominee,” now’s the time for conservatives to dig their heels in more than ever. Just as Lincoln did at the convention, so must we.
Just as Ted Cruz lead a filibuster for 16 days in opposition to Obamacare, we must now rally for Ted Cruz. How? I’m glad you asked. Regardless of your location, you can make a difference from your smart phone or computer. The Cruz campaign has set up a way for volunteers to easily make phone calls to likely Indiana Republican voters on behalf of the campaign. Your caller ID even shows up as an Indiana number when you make the calls.
If you haven’t done this sort of thing before, I understand the hesitation. I, myself, was new at it, but I can assure you that the butterflies disappear quickly after your second or third call. If they don’t answer, even a voice mail makes a huge statistical difference.
